George Epstein began his professional life as a teacher at Kennett High School in Conway, New Hampshire. Even then, in the 1970s, he was the "go to" guy for organizations and companies in the Mount Washington Valley who were trying to harness computer technology to make themselves more efficient and effective. At only 28 he was offered a job as an assistant Superintendent of Schools in Vermont. Fortunately for us fate intervened in the form of an election that made Epstein rethink his move and he remained in the Conway area where over the course of the next five years he launched the Echo Group. Today, the Echo Group has been honored among the best businesses to work for in New Hampshire and in 2012 George Epstein was honored as Entrepreneur of the Year by the New Hampshire High Technology Council at its 24th annual awards awards dinner. Echo has served the information management needs of the behavioral health and human service markets nationwide for over 30 years now. In the meantime Epstein has served as the Moderator of his town's School District and Town meeting for over 30 years and has been an important voice in efforts to make New Hampshire a better place through his work on the University System of NH's Board of Trustees, the Northern Community Investment Corporation and other critical components of the region's non profit civil society community.

New Hampshire Secrets, Legends & Lore honors George Epstein as an unsung hero.

The NH Wildlife Coalition and the Bobcat Fight

In 2016 John Harrigan and Chris Schadler co-founded the NH Wildlife Coalition

a group of New Hampshire natural resource professionals, hunters, wildlife advocates and other outdoor-oriented people who have come together with a singular vision to form the New Hampshire Wildlife Coalition.   Our priorities are to:
  • Advocate for responsible conservation of predator species,
  • End wildlife killing contests,
  • Promote an ethos of “Fair Chase” sporting practices, and
  • Strengthen the NH Fish and Game Department by broadening its governance and financial base.
You can contact us at nhwildlifecoalition@gmail.com

Co-founders Chris Schadler and John Harrigan envisioned the New Hampshire Wildlife Coalition as an addition to the state's outdoor community and a strong voice for wildlife and its habitat.

Episode 19 Marilla Ricker - Atheist, Abolitionist, and Suffragist

Marilla Ricker was a woman of deep and abiding convictions. She also had a great sense of humor and often used it to make her point. However, did Ricker's irreligious viewpoint condemn her to a secondary role to other women and men who led the Abolition movement and suffrage movement? Perhaps, but we hope after you listen to this podcast she will move into the first tier in your mind.
